Religious “morality” strikes again in “liberated” Iraq and innocent little girls will pay the price

There is a new law coming into being in “liberated” Islamist ruled Iraq to legalize the practice of marrying girls as young as 9 years old. This is justified by the Hadiths and the historical record of the actions of Mohammed in marrying Aisha at the age of 6 and consummating the marriage (raping her) at the age of 9. While some scholars debate whether she was 6, 7, 8, 9, 10; this is the justification used for allowing such sexual crimes against children.

What do many Muslim men do when issues such as this are brought up? They act like Catholics and rush to defend the reputation of Islam first and the safety, freedom, and innocence of little girls second (if at all). It is strange to worry more about protecting Islam and other religions from criticism than to worry about protecting little girls from a life of rape and servitude. It’s like the Catholics who feel sorry for the Vatican having to spend money to defend against lawsuits by boys who were raped by priests instead of feeling sorry for the boys who were raped by priests.

One of the most dangerous things about religious faith is that it teaches people to disregard logic and empathy and justice and moderation as the first sources of morality and ethics and instead makes the words of some man who wrote nonsense based upon some other man’s nonsense the primary source of supposed knowledge as to what is right and what is wrong. If god were real many of the actions attributed to him/her/it throughout the ages in all religions would be acts of evil without a doubt and yet humans would still worship him/her/it just like the North Koreans crying at Kim Jong Il’s funeral or the Russians crying at Stalin’s tomb.
