Between the Droughts and the Floods

Between the Droughts and the Floods

Words and music by Abel Ashes, from the album Between the Droughts and the Floods, 2019

Two hundred feet down and the temp was still warm
So we broke another record with a new super-storm
As the sea levels rise between the droughts and the floods
The climate change deniers’ hands are covered with blood

Coal power, heat on the rise
Depleted soil for miles and miles
As we travel across the land
As we travel across the sea
We find a place where nothing grows in the shades of gray

They leave the countries they know and sacrifice all they own
Because desire to survive is driving them on
Its the smugglers rules for orphans of Mother Earth
When your origin determines both your freedom and worth

Frack water, demand for crude
Sea levels rise with CO2
The methane flares
Bright stupid flames
The GOP has shit for brains

Arctic fires, Antarctic melt
And all the people in-between where the heat wave was felt
Its like a WMD or some nut with a gun
You’ll realize the threat is real when there’s nowhere to run
