Music is art, entertainment, catharsis, and communication. It is not a sport or a competition. An amateur musician who can make people feel something, think about something, enjoy themselves, get excited, get intrigued, get sad, get angry, feel romantic, question their assumptions, relax, wake up, feel encouraged, feel mesmerized, ask “What the fuck was that sound?”…is a more successful musician than a professional who can only do a second-rate replication of the innovators and communicators and sonic and cultural rebels who came before them.
